That's why through arts, from each period and people of human history, we can understand their behaviour, laws, traditions and facts, because through their art we can understand the way they see life and their interpretation of reality.
With Typography it was possible to spread ideas and thoughts. And it was the key to the Age of Enlightenment, a big cultural, technological, Philosophical and political revolution in Europe. The more literate was people the better understand they would have about politest, religion, arts, science and more informed they would be about their government administration. Therefore, more participation they would have in the political, social, religion and philosophical debates.
Photography freezes what we see. But not only it, photograph has the power to displace objects, decontextualise what is photographed. Descontextualising what we see open room not only to alter reality, but like any other technology it changes our interpretation about reality. Consequently changes our perception of true and false, of good and bad, of justice, and so on.
Now, we live in a culture dominated by the TV language. The language of entertainment, the factual, short and momentary information, the moving pictures, short dialogue and fast ideas.
As usual, other medias follow the language of the dominated media. News papers have sheltered their texts, add many colourful graphics, photos and visual signs remanding TV screen. Films have become fast scenes, action and dialogues, photo shoots become the associated to have fun.
The TV has influenced the way we see, live our lives, our perception about reality and information, the way we organise ideas and speech. We live in a show business, entertainment, what is "good has no need to spend time on thoughts and questions" reality.
And this language has also being used in the arts:
At this point what differs average arts from entertainment?
Have art become anything else other than a financial investment?
Whale many people avoid political and idealogical discussion, sometimes claiming being against ideologies, people have not realised yet that technologies are the biggest ideologies of all.
It is sure that we have to adapt to the society language in order to survive in it, but does it means that we shout accept it's language?
