I wouldn't be surprised if they were highly requisited top models like Gisele Bundchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima or Flavia De Oliveira. But I am talking about aspiring models who barely have a portfolio to show, hoping to earn a free international trip with just a beautiful face.
Of courser there is nothing wrong on just trying, but to be fair... beautiful faces are very common all over the world. You need more than that to become a required model, specially to have a international trip expenses paid for a photo session.
The good news is that you still can be a travelling model. "But how?"
The first thing to do is to build a strong portfolio before thinking earn money, and you can do it cooperating with photographers in your area. Once you got a interesting portfolio you can start sending cold emails to photographers, letting them know you exist and showing your body of work and prices.
I think it is important start get the practice in your area before planing spend money on travel. What you should try to improve the most is your contacting skills, learning the way it works better to attract interest of photographers on hire your. But also be fully familiarised with the business practice, on how to charge, releases, etc.
Now the actually travelling. It starts with you planing a trip, it could be you holiday trip. You decide where to go, how long you are going to stay, etc. At the beginning you are paying your trip. Once you have your travel planed you start to search photographers in the cities where you are going to stay. The more photographers you find to send a cold email the better.
Your email can be very simple and direct: "Hi, My name is "X" from "X". I am on a trip to "X" and I will be in your area for 3 days (for example) from day "X". Have a look on my portfolio and if interested on my work and rates we can book a photo shoot day".
Or some thing like this.
So you keep trying contacting photographers. The more you contact the greater are the chances to be hired. And the more hired the better are the chances to end your trip with no costs or even with profits. It can be a profitable job to be a travelling model if you have good modelling and communication skills. As everything in life we need practice before become successful, so don't give up if it doesn't work on the first time you try. Try again and see if you get better.
You also should not forget to do your home work, and that means searching about photographers before working with them, just to keep it safe. You can learn about it in my text called: 3 tips to help independent models feel safe when working with a new photographer.
And keep bloging, sharing your work on social medias. They help to spread your work and get more jobs. It is also a good idea to join forums. Models and photographers forums, where you can meet people with the same interests and learn with others experiences, or even ask questions you may get.
